Botham Jean’s Law Passes!

Some accountability and justice is served in Texas now that Bo’s law has officially passed the house.

It was a late night for law maker’s in Texas but in additon to Bo’s law, they passed some others that support our cause.

Congratulations to Bo’s family and friends on this small taste of accountability-

here are other details:

The Texas House approved several crime and criminal justice bills, including one spurred by the killing of Botham Jean, in the hours before its first major deadline Thursday at midnight.

In addition to Bo’s Law, which would create new standards for how and when police body cameras following the killing of Jean by an off-duty Dallas police officer, the House also passed bills to require air conditioning to be installed inside state-run jails and prisons and to make it a state jail felony to lie on a firearm background check form.

Rep. Toni Rose, D-Dallas, passed a bill in the last hour of the night that seeks to protect mentally offenders from being sent to death row. Rep. Carl Sherman, D-DeSoto, passed Bo’s Law and Rep. Charlie Geren generated cheers from the floor after passing the background check bill. The legislation was in response to the multiple mass shootings in Texas in recent years.

Bo’s Law clarifies the state’s castle doctrine and eliminate loopholes used for some defenses. It would also make it an offense for police to turn off body cameras during investigations, among other moves for transparency.
